Historical Film as a Learning Tool

Those who know me know that I am extremely passionate about using film as a learning tool in history classes of all levels. I teach seminars for a module on the British Empire and I recommend films to my students every week based on the lecture topic.  My goal is to someday teach a subject class based on its representations in current film and media.

I’ve decided the purpose of this blog will be to do just that. My posts will be reviews and commentary on pirates in current media, be it television, film, music, etc.

To start it off, here’s a link to a blog entry I wrote for my university about how to use the film, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, as a learning tool in a class about the early modern Caribbean or Atlantic History. Enjoy!
